heat it started with four mechanical engineering students at KIT: Armin, Christof, Lukas, and Stefan. The idea originated as a prototype in the “COSIMA” student competition. It was well known that heat is effective against itchy insect bites. But why did existing devices have to be bulky and require their own battery? After all, you always have your smartphone with you anyway.
In 2018, we completed our master’s degrees and, at the same time, continued to develop heat it through the Exist scholarship at the IMT on Campus North. Shortly thereafter, we founded Kamedi GmbH. The name stands for “Karlsruhe Medical Devices,” and Karlsruhe remains our home to this day: development, production, and shipping all take place here, just a few hundred meters from the campus.
Here’s how heat it works: plug it into the charging port, start the treatment in the app, and place it on the bite. The skin area is heated to around 51 °C for a few seconds. This relieves itching and pain from mosquito, horsefly, bee, and wasp stings—all without chemicals and without a separate battery. Small enough for any keychain, so you always have it with you, whether you’re in the Schlossgarten or at the Baggersee.
The special edition with the KIT engraving connects heat it to the university where it all began. For students, alumni, and anyone who wants a piece of Karlsruhe engineering in their pocket.
